Calla lily:
Also known as the arum lily, this trumpet-shaped blossom originated in Africa and symbolized”magnificent beauty” the the Victorians.
The calla lily’s distinctive form has been depicted in Art Norveau and Art Deco works as well as twentieth-century photography. Two types are commonly available: one with a large head and a long, smooth stem, suitable for tall arrangements or presentation bouquets, and a miniature version ideal for nosegays and boutonnieres. Creamy ivory is the most popular color, but calla lilies also come in yellow, orange, mauve-pink, and dark purple.
Calla lilies have enjoyed resurgence in popularity during the past few decades, thanks in part to their rediscovery by artists, photographers, and trendsetters. What served as inspirational subject matter for the likes of Diego Rivera and Georgia O’Keeffe has more recently been interpreted by such photographers as Tina Midotti and Robert Mapplethorpe. When Calvin Klein chose them as one of the few decorative elements displayed around his ultra-spare home d?cor line, they assumed their current reputation as a minimalist flower, something that has only spurred their popularity with arrangements of all types, including wedding bouquets.Their simple lines bring to mind an Old Hollywood Sunset Boulevard-type decadence, making them good for a formal mix.
Super hardy, calla lilies have plenty of staying power whether your autumn event is cool and crisp or turns out to be more on the humid summer side.
